Introduction

This website makes use of cookies. These are text files containing small amounts of information which are downloaded to your device when you visit a website. Cookies are then sent back to the originating website on each subsequent visit, or to another website that recognises that cookie. Cookies are useful because they allow a website to recognise a user’s device. You can find more information about cookies at: All about Cookies and Your Online Choices.  For a video about cookies visit Cookies.
Cookies do lots of different jobs, like letting you navigate between pages efficiently, remembering your preferences, and generally improve the user experience. They can also help to ensure that adverts you see online are more relevant to you and your interests.  A list of the cookies used on this website is set out below. Cookies for improving service by measuring traffic

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, in order to find out how visitors interact with our website so we can improve it. Information is collected anonymously and website trends are reported without identifying individual visitors.

Cookie name  and Purpose

__utma
Keeps track of the number of times a visitor has been to the site, when their first visit was, and when their last visit occurred. It expires after two years.
__utmb and __utmc
The B and C cookies work together to calculate how long a visit takes.
__utmb takes a timestamp of the exact moment in time when a visitor enters a site, while __utmc takes a timestamp of the exact moment in time when a visitor leaves a site.
__utmb expires at the end of the session. __utmc waits 30 minutes, and then it expires.
__utmc has no way of knowing when a user closes their browser or leaves a website, so it waits 30 minutes for another pageview to happen, and if it doesn't, it expires.
__utmz keeps track of where the visitor came from, what search engine was used, what link was clicked on, what keyword was used, and where they were in the world when the website was accessed. It expires after six months.

As we have no control over the privacy policies set by these third parties we have listed them below along with links to their privacy and/or cookies policies.

CGIScript.net  products – we use some of the products of CGIScript.net, to improve the functionality of our website. These include csIndex, csPoller and csFormBuilder. In answer to our query about cookies, we were told:
All the public parts of the scripts have minimal session cookies.. mainly just to control the functionality. They don't contain any real useful info.
Clustrmap – indicates where visitors are coming from, and gives an idea of how many come from different parts of the world
Daily Motion – a video-sharing site

Flickr – a photo- and video-sharing site
Lulu – a print-on-demand website which also makes e-book versions available.

TrueTube – a video-sharing site
Twetememe – makes it easy for visitors to share content via Twitter
Youtube – a video-sharing site
Zemanta – makes recommended reading based on the content of the article. There is no privacy information on their website. However, in an email response to our query about this issue, they wrote:
Zemanta is the plug-in that is active only when you edit your posts. Zemanta does not set cookies to visitors of your site.
There is a small branded image at the bottom that allows us to count impressions of posts (which you are free to delete if you want, it's a promotion for us).
Please note that other third party services may be used from time to time as well.
